レナート 5/27(wed)

ホームステイ先のルームメイト、レナート（落花生似の大学教授）が来月半ばにブラジルに帰ってしまうとのこと。当初８月までいる予定だったらしいのだが、奥さんと息子(8歳)の強い「帰ってこい！」コールに根負けし、戻ることにしたらしい。なんとも残念、そして底抜けに明るいあのキャラがいなくなると少し寂しい。

彼と出会って最初の１ヶ月は結構もめた。２週間ほどの冷戦時期もあった。
それは、彼の癖が強すぎた故、なにより彼が全く英語が喋れなかった故。
僕もどちらかと言えば、取っ付き辛いと言われる性格なので、
お互い上手くコミュニケーションが取れなかったのだ。

ちなみに彼の人生、36年間、彼は一度も英語を勉強したことがなかったらしい。
カナダに来て初めて英語を学んだらしい。（ポルトガル語とスペイン語は喋れる）

「イングリッシュ　マイファースト　イクスペリエンス！」

と２ヶ月前、よく彼が叫んでいたのが懐かしい。
たぶん色々とフラストレーションが溜まっていたんだと思う。

さてそんなレナートだが、最近は一緒に映画見に行ったり、グラマーを教えてあげたり、発音を教えて貰ったり、時にはベンの愚痴を一緒に言ったりと、けっこう仲良くやっていた。なので寂しさひと塩。たまに面倒くさいけど、いい奴だよ。


また、来月新しいルームメイトがやってくる。ベンがぼそっと言っていたが
マリオかアントニオか分からんが、またもやブラジリアンらしい。
今度はどんな子か？一説によると25歳ぐらいらしい。またアッパー系かしら。



I heard Renart, who is my roommate in homestay, is going back to Brazil in the middle of next month. He was suppose to stay tohere by August, but he decided to go back, because his wife and eight-year old son convinced him to go back earlier. It really makes me sad because he is such a open-mind person, and I'll feel lonely after he leaves.

In the first month we met, I often argue with him. There were even two weeks tha we never talked to each other. At that time, his personality was a little different, and he couldn't speak English at all, I'm also not talkative. Because of this, we couldn't communicate with each other very well.
Renart had never studied English before he came to Vancouver. Two months ago, he often shouted, "ENGLISH MY FIRST EXPERIENCE !!". I don't know why he shouted at that time, but I think he felt the frustration of not being understood.

Recently, I get along with him. Sometimes we catch a flick, study English, and talk bad about hostfather. Now we have a good friendship, that's why I feel regret.

In addition, my host father told me that a new roommate will come next month, and he might be also a 25-year old Brazilian boy. I hope I get along with him.
